A Broken Crown Requires Immediate Attention
Losing a crown or experiencing damage to the abutment is always a serious cause for concern. If these things have happened to you, you need to call Phillips Ranch - Family & Cosmetic Dentistry as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. The more you delay treatment, the more likely you are to damage the abutment that anchors the crown in place.
You can assess the situation with a quick look in the mirror. If the abutment is not damaged, we might be able to cement the crown back in place.
You can gently rinse your mouth with lukewarm saltwater if a blow to the face left blood or debris in your mouth. This might also help you get a better look at the abutment. You shouldn’t try to brush or clean the exposed abutment or crown. This could cause damage and result in serious complications. Please let our Phillips Ranch - Family & Cosmetic Dentistry team handle any needed cleaning treatments.
If some or all of the abutment broke off, you should see it still inside the crown. In a case like this, we might have to perform a root canal to restore enough tooth structure to cement the crown back in place.
If you have a crown that has broken off or come loose, you need to call Phillips Ranch - Family & Cosmetic Dentistry as soon as possible at 909-860-0321 to schedule an appointment with your dentist, Dr. Sanjay Merchant
