Eating disorders are severely dangerous for your overall health. They are also dangerous for your oral health and smile. Little did you know, they can destroy your teeth and gums. To eliminate these issues, it’s best to quit the disorder altogether. Until you can do so, it’s important to do all you can to keep your smile in tip-top shape. To help you, Dr. Howard Glassman and our dental team are happy to give you some tips.

First, regularly clean your smile and keep up on oral hygiene. Make sure you brush your chompers every morning and every night, floss your teeth once a day, and rinse your mouth daily. While you do these things, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, a flossing product of your choice, and antibacterial mouthwash.

Second, rinse your mouth. After throwing up, please refrain from brushing your teeth. Brushing will just worsen the effects of the acid in your bile. This can lead to further enamel erosion. Instead, rinse your mouth with baking soda to neutralize the stomach acid.

Third, visit Dr. Howard Glassman. Make sure you do so every six months for your professional dental cleanings and exams. These visits will help you keep your smile in tip-top shape and will also help you prevent tooth decay, gum disease, enamel erosion, and other dental issues.
